Steven BallantyneCEO
Steven initially trained as a Movement Therapist working primarily with young adults with profound autism. He was a founder member of the East London and City Bereavement Association and ran his own successful private counselling practice.
In 2001, Steven chose to make a life-change by entering the world of exploration. He travelled extensively, choosing developing countries such as Papua New Guinea, East Timor and South East Asia.
During this year he was held captive in the jungles of Papua New Guinea however, following a dramatic air rescue, he has since returned many times to lead successful independent tours across the Kakoda Trail and Black Cat Trail.
In 2002, he lived for three months with the Tenggerese community at the foot of Mount Bromo in East Java.
Steven led the first phase of the Scientific Explorations Society's tour to Mongolia in 2006 and the full tour in 2007. It was after this that he decided it was time to set up his own company hence Expedition Project Management Ltd was created. It's main aim is utilising Steven's expertise in numerous countries across the world and expedition leadership to set up, develop and manage expeditions for independent companies and organisations.
While Steven is currently based in Hong Kong, his passion and real love still lies with the countries of East and West Timor and Indonesia as well as those who he regards as his family in Papua New Guinea.

Phil MurphyOperations Director
While completing a degree as a chartered surveyor in his native England, Phil got the travel bug during long student summers working in France, Spain
and the USA. Upon graduation he was drawn to Asia and landed in Hong Kong in early 1993.
Intending to stay as a backpacker for only three months, Phil finds himself still based in Hong Kong and made his career here. He used the city as a base to explore Asia including many trips of half a year or more on the road in places such as China, Tibet, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Australia and all over South East Asia.
Further details of his travels can be found in his blog which is being slowly added to and updated.
Before joining EPM Asia, he was better known for managing, setting up and owning some of the city's iconic bars for their time, including Time After Time, phi-b, Baby Buddha, yumla, delicious and DYMK.
Phil has a love of music and can play piano. He has been proud to play a small part for the past two years in Clockenflap, Hong Kong's answer to Glastonbury Music Festival.
His true passion though is travel and was happy to join EPM Asia in June 2010.
